The Ghana Football Association has appointed experienced Portuguese coach Carlos Queiroz as head coach of the Black Stars ahead of the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

‎The decision, taken by the GFA’s Executive Council in consultation with key stakeholders, signals a clear intent to rely on Queiroz’s vast international experience as Ghana prepares for football’s biggest stage, set to be hosted across Canada, Mexico and the United States.

‎Queiroz brings with him an extensive coaching résumé, having managed top clubs such as Real Madrid and served as assistant coach at Manchester United. On the international stage, he has taken charge of several national teams, including Portugal, Iran, Egypt, Oman, Japan and Qatar.

‎His World Cup credentials are equally notable. He guided South Africa national football team to qualification for the 2002 tournament, led Portugal national football team to the knockout stages in 2010, and managed Iran national football team at both the 2014 and 2018 editions.

‎The GFA believes his tactical discipline and organisational strength will be key as Ghana look to make a strong impression on the global stage.

‎Queiroz is expected to begin work immediately, assessing the current squad and shaping a competitive team capable of challenging top opposition.

‎Ghana will open their World Cup campaign on 17 June in Toronto against Panama national football team, before facing European heavyweights England national football team and Croatia national football team in what promises to be a demanding group.

‎With Queiroz now at the helm, expectations are high among Ghanaian fans as the Black Stars aim to rediscover their competitive edge on the world stage.
