16th December 2025
Kurt Edwin Simeon-Okraku, President of the Ghana Football Association (GFA) and 2nd Vice-President of CAF, has held high-level talks with the United States Chamber of Commerce in Washington, D.C., as part of Ghana’s preparations for the 2026 FIFA World Cup in North America.
Strategic Engagements
Okraku met with Rick C. Wade, Senior Vice President for Strategic Alliances and Outreach, and Dr. Guevera Yao, Vice President of the U.S.–Africa Business Center.
- Discussions focused on:
- Commercial cooperation
- Logistics and operations
- Fan engagement strategies
- Leveraging the World Cup to enhance Ghana’s economic, cultural, and sporting presence in North America.
The initiative forms part of the GFA’s broader strategy to ensure Ghana is well-positioned both competitively and operationally for the tournament.
Institutional Partnerships
The meeting builds on a series of engagements by Okraku in the U.S., including:
- Talks with Ghana’s Ambassador to the United States, H.E. Victor Emmanuel Smith.
- Meetings with leadership of the State of Maryland, underscoring the GFA’s commitment to coordinated planning and institutional support.
- Ghana has been drawn in Group L for the 2026 World Cup.
- Fixtures:
- June 17 – vs Panama (Toronto)
- June 23 – vs England (Boston)
- June 27 – vs Croatia (Philadelphia)
- This will be Ghana’s fifth World Cup appearance, with ambitions to surpass their historic 2010 quarterfinal run.
Under Okraku’s leadership, the GFA is positioning Ghana not only for success on the pitch but also for broader impact off it — using the World Cup as a platform to strengthen international partnerships, boost national pride, and showcase Ghana’s global identity.
This engagement highlights how Ghana is blending football ambition with diplomacy and commerce, ensuring the Black Stars’ journey to North America resonates far beyond the stadiums.
