The Ghana Football Association is set to compensate former Ghana national football team head coach Otto Addo following his dismissal.
Addo, who returned to the role in March 2024 on a three-year contract, was relieved of his duties after Ghana’s disappointing performances in recent international friendlies. The Black Stars suffered a heavy 5-1 defeat to Austria before losing 2-1 to Germany national football team in Stuttgart.
Although the GFA has not officially disclosed the settlement figure, reports suggest Addo could receive around $500,000, representing the remaining ten months of his contract, with the coach reportedly earning $50,000 per month.
Addo’s second stint in charge followed the departure of Chris Hughton after Ghana’s group-stage exit at the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations. During his tenure, Addo oversaw 22 matches, recording eight wins, five draws and nine defeats.
With the position now vacant, several high-profile names have been linked to the role, including Marc Brys, Tom Saintfiet and Herve Renard.
The Black Stars are expected to regroup in May for friendly matches against Mexico and Wales as preparations continue for the 2026 World Cup. Ghana, making their fifth appearance at the tournament, have been drawn in Group L alongside England, Croatia and Panama, with ambitions of progressing beyond the group stage for the first time since 2010.
