Former Ghana international Anthony Baffoe has urged the Ghana national football team to provide greater support for forward Antoine Semenyo, insisting improved teamwork will help the striker rediscover his best form at international level.

‎Semenyo, 26, has enjoyed an impressive season at club level with Manchester City, scoring 15 goals across competitions. However, he has struggled to replicate that output for Ghana, managing just three goals in nearly five years with the national team.

‎Speaking at a watch party for Ghana’s friendly against Germany at the German Ambassador’s Residence in Accra, Baffoe pointed to the difference between Semenyo’s club environment and the current dynamics within the Black Stars setup.

‎“Semenyo is a top-class player, but at the moment, the Black Stars are not Man City,” he said.

‎He highlighted the absence and fitness concerns of key players, including Mohammed Kudus, Kamaldeen Sulemana and Thomas Partey, as factors limiting the team’s attacking cohesion.

‎“I think Jordan had a very good match. He was very, very active on the pitch. So if those guys are really also in shape, I think Semenyo also will be good. They’ll provide better balls for him,” Baffoe added.

‎Despite his club form, Semenyo struggled to make an impact during Ghana’s recent defeats to Austria and Germany in the March international window.

‎The Black Stars are expected to regroup in May for friendlies against Mexico and Wales as they intensify preparations for the 2026 World Cup. Ghana have been drawn in Group L alongside Panama, England and Croatia, with hopes of progressing beyond the group stage for the first time since 2010.
