Former Communications Director of the Ghana Football Association, Ibrahim Sannie Daara, has urged caution in the search for a new head coach of the Ghana national football team following the dismissal of Otto Addo.
Addo was sacked after back-to-back defeats to Austria and Germany in recent international friendlies, prompting the GFA to begin the process of finding a replacement ahead of the 2026 World Cup.
Speaking to Citi News, Sannie Daara stressed that while there is urgency to appoint a new coach, the decision must be guided by long-term planning rather than short-term pressure.
“While we are looking for a coach now, we must also think about the future,” he said. “We have a very young squad with the potential to do well… so we need a coach who will not only focus on the World Cup but can also stay long-term and stabilise the team for sustained success.”
The search for a new coach has attracted widespread interest, with FA president Kurt Okraku revealing that more than 600 applications have been received for the role. A new appointment is expected within the next two weeks.
Ghana are set to regroup in May for international friendlies against Mexico and Wales, key fixtures in their preparations for the World Cup.
The Black Stars, who will be making their fifth appearance at the tournament, have been drawn in Group L alongside England, Croatia and Panama, and will be aiming to progress beyond the group stage for the first time since 2010.
