The National Organizer of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), Kofi Adams, has slammed the National Identification Authority for rejecting the voters ID card as proof of citizenship for those applying for the cards.

According to Mr. Adams, the decision by the NIA to reject the voters ID card is wrong while accusing the Akufo-Addo led government of attempting to exclude many Ghanaians from the exercise.

Speaking in an interview, the outspoken NDC organizer who was responding to Former President Rawlings' registration indicated that that was a personal decision on the part of his former boss.

Former President Rawlings who is the founder of the NDC, registered for the card on Tuesday even though the NDC Minority in Parliament have boycotted the process that it claims the use of only birth certificates and passports as proof of citizenship could denationalize some Ghanaians.

Kofi Adams on Wednesday stated that, “the fact that H. E. Jerry John Rawlings has registered does not mean the processes are right”.

“He decided to toe another line and there is nothing wrong with that because when we were fighting for the independence, Nana Addo’s elders went somewhere”.

Mr. Adams conceded that his party founder may have registered because he has all the requirements.

“May be he will register and push for what is right to be done on the registration,” he added.

Mr. Adams remarked that “even criminals and drugs dealers are using Ghana Passports” which is acceptable by NIA but not the voters’ IDs.

“The intention is to exclude many people and we don’t know what is wrong with this government”, he wondered.
