Two Ghanaian footballers, Maxwell Woledzi and Prince Osei Owusu, have been named in Major League Soccer’s Team of the Week after delivering standout performances for their respective clubs on matchday eight.
The pair were instrumental in securing crucial victories for their sides, underlining their growing influence in the American top flight.
Woledzi impressed with a commanding display in defence as Nashville SC recorded a 2-0 win over Atlanta United, maintaining their position at the top of the Eastern Conference. The Ghanaian centre-back helped his side keep a clean sheet with a composed and disciplined performance at the back.
Meanwhile, Owusu played a decisive role in CF Montréal’s emphatic 4-1 victory over New York Red Bulls. The German-born Ghanaian forward was directly involved in three goals, capping a prolific outing that earned him widespread recognition. His performance placed him among the top contenders for Player of the Week, an accolade ultimately awarded to Lionel Messi of Inter Miami.
The Team of the Week also features notable names including FC Dallas striker Petar Musa, Charlotte FC goalkeeper Kristijan Kahlina and Minnesota United defender Jefferson Díaz.
Others selected include Olwethu Makhanya of Philadelphia Union, Ousseni Bouda from San Jose Earthquakes, Diego Luna of Real Salt Lake, Cristian Roldan of Seattle Sounders, and Sergi Solans, also of Real Salt Lake.
Another Ghanaian, Joseph Paintsil, was recognised for his performances by earning a place on the bench in the weekly selection.
