Ghana forward Antoine Semenyo has expressed confidence in the Black Stars’ ability to rise to the occasion against England at the 2026 FIFA World Cup, insisting the squad possesses the experience needed for the high-profile encounter.
The four-time African champions are scheduled to face England on 23 June in their second Group L fixture at the tournament, which will be staged across the United States, Canada and Mexico.
Speaking on the All Out Football podcast, Semenyo acknowledged the strength of the Three Lions, now led by Thomas Tuchel, but remained optimistic about Ghana’s chances.
“I’m looking forward to it. It’s going to be tough, especially against England, but we have a lot of experience,” he said.
Ghana will open their campaign against Panama on 17 June before the clash with England, and will conclude their group-stage matches against Croatia on 27 June.
Preparations for the tournament are expected to begin in May, with friendly matches lined up against Mexico and Wales, as the team fine-tunes its approach ahead of the competition.
The Black Stars will be aiming for a stronger showing on the global stage after early exits at the 2014 and 2022 editions. Much of that responsibility now rests with newly appointed head coach Carlos Queiroz, who is tasked with rebuilding momentum and guiding the team through a challenging group.
With experienced players and renewed belief within the squad, Ghana will hope to prove they can compete with one of Europe’s strongest sides when the two nations meet.
