Gunmen kill four in 24 hours in Bawku
25th October 2025
Four people, including two women, have been shot dead by unidentified gunmen in Bawku and surrounding areas within the past 24 hours, heightening tensions in the already volatile municipality.
The latest incident occurred around 6 a.m. on Saturday, October 25, along the Atuba road near Binduri, where a man identified only as Azimbe was ambushed and killed. Reports suggest the deceased was the son of the late Kusasi chief, who was murdered in Asawasi, Kumasi, in July this year.
The killing followed a string of attacks on Friday, beginning with the shooting of a woman who was reportedly gunned down after stepping out to meet a colleague in the morning. Later that evening, around 7 p.m., a man identified as Salam was shot dead by two armed men on a motorbike at a drinking spot in Garu. At about 11 p.m., another woman was also killed in Binduri.
Sources indicate that military personnel have arrested 10 suspects in connection with the murder of the second woman in Binduri.
The renewed violence has further destabilized peace efforts in Bawku, where years of sporadic clashes have claimed numerous lives and prompted the government to impose a curfew and ban on arms.
Security forces have since intensified patrols in the area as residents call for a lasting resolution to the protracted conflict.
