Hearts select University of Ghana Stadium as new home ground
18th September 2024
Ghana Premier League giants Hearts of Oak have designated the University of Ghana Stadium as their new home venue following the unexpected closure of the Accra Sports Stadium for maintenance.
The National Sports Authority (NSA) decided to shut down the stadium after facing criticism for the deteriorating condition of the pitch.
This decision comes on the heels of the Confederation of African Football (CAF) revoking approval for the Baba Yara Sports Stadium in Kumasi to host national team matches, citing the stadium's failure to meet the standards required for Category Three games.
With the Accra Sports Stadium out of service, Hearts of Oak will now share the University of Ghana Stadium with Legon Cities, Dreams FC, and Accra Lions until renovations are completed.
Initially, Hearts had considered using the Baba Yara Stadium as an alternative venue for the 2024/25 season. However, with that option no longer viable, they have opted for the University of Ghana facility.
The Phobians' next home match is set for Sunday, September 21, 2024, against Bechem United, where they will be seeking their first win of the season at their temporary home ground.
