Ghanaian midfielder David Abagna played a crucial role in APOEL Nicosia's 2-1 victory over Italian side ACF Fiorentina in their UEFA Conference League match-day 3 clash at the GSP Stadium.
The 26-year-old’s goal was pivotal in securing the Cypriot club’s valuable home win.
Abagna, who joined APOEL in the summer, has been impressive during his European campaigns this year.
The former AshantiGold SC and RTU midfielder was handed a start against the Serie A team as he showcased his skill and stamina, completing the full 90 minutes with a commendable Sofascore rating of 7.5.
The match saw Greek international Anastasios Donis breaking the deadlock in the 37th minute, followed by Abagna doubling the lead just before halftime.
Fiorentina responded with a goal from Ivorian forward Jonathan Ikoné in the 74th minute, but it wasn't enough to alter the outcome.
Despite an impressive season with APOEL, Abagna did not make the latest Black Stars squad. However, his consistent form in European competition is likely to strengthen his case for future national team consideration.
APOEL Nicosia, currently 17th on the Conference League standings with four points, will next face Molde FK in Norway as they aim to climb the table.
