Belgium-born Ghanaian winger Jeremy Doku marked a standout performance with a goal as Manchester City kicked off their FIFA Club World Cup campaign with a 2-0 win over Moroccan side Wydad Athletic Club on Wednesday.

City wasted no time asserting dominance, with Phil Foden opening the scoring in just the 2nd minute.

Doku then doubled the lead with a well-taken goal just before halftime, sending a strong message to the rest of the competition.

His finish resonated particularly with African fans, especially those from Ghana, who view the winger as one of their own due to his Ghanaian roots.

Despite going down to ten men after Rico Lewis was shown a straight red card for a late challenge on Ghana international Samuel Obeng, Pep Guardiola's side remained composed and secured the clean sheet.

With two more group-stage matches to play, Manchester City look poised to make a serious push for the Club World Cup title.

Doku’s growing role and African heritage have added depth and diversity to City's campaign, earning him admiration both in Europe and across the continent of Africa.
