Ghana Premier League giant, Asante Kotoko, is set to propose radical changes to the foreign player quota at the upcoming Congress of the Ghana Football Association (GFA).

The club aims to seek support for amending Article 26(5) of the Ghana Premier League Regulations, which currently limits the number of foreign players a club can register and field on match days.

Under the existing regulation, clubs are permitted to register a maximum of five non-Ghanaian nationals in their squad, but only three can be included in a matchday squad.

According to Angel Sports’ Saddick Adams, Asante Kotoko is advocating for a change to this rule.

The club plans to initiate the amendment procedure at the GFA Congress next month to allow clubs to register and field more foreign players.

This move is part of Asante Kotoko's strategy to enhance their squad's competitiveness.

Asante Kotoko has already signed three foreign players this month.

One of the new signings, Samba O’Neil from Congo, was named Man of the Match on Wednesday night for his outstanding performance, which contributed to the Porcupine Warriors' 2-1 victory over Hearts of Oak in the inaugural Democracy Cup.

The club's checks indicate that Asante Kotoko is looking to recruit additional foreign players to strengthen their team ahead of the 2024/25 football season.
