The new executives of the Ghana Olympic Committee (GOC) last Tuesday 13 May 2025, called on the Minister for Sports and Recreation Honourable Kofi Iddie Adams to officially introduce themselves and thank him for honoring their invitation during their elections and swearing - in ceremony at the Accra International Conference Center few weeks ago.
The delegation of the GOC led by its president elect Mr Richard Akpokavie Esq and the Secretary-General Mr Muniru Kassim Mohammed were thankful to the Minister's for his kind gesture by gracing the occasion and calls for collaboration and support between the Ghana Olympic Committee and the sports Ministry in developing talents in Ghana.
On his part Mr. Adams applauded the Ghana Olympic Committee for the maturity demonstrated during their elections.
Mr Kofi Adams calls for teamwork and unity among the newly elected executives. He said when there is coordination amongst the leadership, the sports will grow and they will succeed in their tenure of office for the next four years.
He noted that more women should be encouraged in the next GOC elections "I want to see a woman President in future".
The Minister charged the executives to win more medals in International competitions especially Olympic games and Commonwealth games in the near future and promised the government led by His Ex. John Dramani Mahama firm support for the GOC anytime the need arises.
The Ghana Olympic Committee was established in 1950 and gained recognition in 1951 as a member of the International Olympic Committee. The Committee has been effectively champion Ghana's participation in several championships including Commonwealth and International Olympic games. It is also the mother of all sports federations in Ghana.
It went to the polls on 26 April 2025 to elect 18 - member executives to hold the helm of affairs for the next four (4) years.
Over the past weeks the leadership has embarked on thanksgiving at Our Lady of Mercy Catholic Church, Community 1, TEMA and a call on the National Chief Immam for his divine blessings and direction.
