Veteran football administrator Lawyer Kwame Ntow Fianko has strongly opposed the proposed extension of the term limits for the Ghana Football Association (GFA) presidency, calling for football administrators to reject any move to change the current rules.

Reports indicate that the administration of GFA president Kurt Okraku is pushing to amend the association’s statutes to extend the presidential term from two terms to three.

Under the current rule, Okraku, who was re-elected in 2023 for a second term, would be required to leave office in 2027.

However, with this proposed change, Okraku could potentially remain in office for another term beyond that.

Fianko, who is a former Chairman of the Division One League, expressed his strong disapproval of the proposal during an interview with Kessben FM.

He emphasized that no individual should feel entitled to hold onto the presidency of the GFA indefinitely, citing the example of past presidents like HP Nyameteye, Sam Okyere, and MND Jawula, who all served their terms and left when their tenure was up.

“Ghana football isn’t for anyone. Others came and left, so Kurt Okraku shouldn’t feel entitled,” Fianko said.

He also questioned Okraku’s achievements, suggesting that he has not done enough to justify extending his tenure beyond the current two-term limit.
