Former Communications Director of the Ghana Football Association, Ibrahim Sannie Daara, has backed Kwesi Appiah as the ideal candidate to take over as head coach of the Ghana Black Stars.
The senior national team is currently without a manager following the dismissal of Otto Addo, who was sacked after a poor run of results, including defeats to Austria and Germany in recent international friendlies.
With the 2026 World Cup approaching, the GFA is under pressure to appoint a new coach capable of stabilising the team and restoring confidence.
Sannie Daara believes Appiah’s experience and familiarity with the national setup make him the most practical choice.
“My obvious first choice will go directly to Kwesi Appiah. The reason is his vast knowledge about the squad. He is a coach who can step in and hit the ground running without any difficulties,” he said.
Appiah, a former Black Stars coach, is widely regarded for his deep understanding of Ghana’s football structure and player pool, qualities that could prove crucial at a time when the team needs immediate direction.
However, Sannie Daara also pointed to other experienced options, including Herve Renard, Sebastien Desabre and Pedro Goncalves, as viable alternatives for the role.
The next appointment is expected to play a key role in shaping Ghana’s preparations for the World Cup, where the Black Stars will aim to re-establish themselves on the global stage and meet the high expectations of supporters.
