The Ghana Football Association has reportedly opened talks with former Morocco head coach Walid Regragui as it searches for a new manager for Otto Addo replacement.

‎The four-time African champions are without a substantive coach following the dismissal of Otto Addo, who was relieved of his duties after consecutive friendly defeats to Austria and Germany during the March international window.

‎Ghana suffered a heavy 5-1 loss in Vienna before falling 2-1 in Stuttgart, results that have raised concerns about the team’s readiness for the 2026 World Cup.

‎Reports indicate that the GFA is exploring experienced options to steady the team, with Regragui emerging as a leading candidate. The Moroccan tactician recently left his role with the Morocco national football team after a highly successful spell.

Regragui earned widespread recognition for guiding Morocco to a historic semi-final finish at the 2022 World Cup in Qatar, the first time an African nation reached that stage of the competition. His reputation for tactical discipline and strong man-management has since made him one of the most sought-after coaches on the continent.

Ghana is keen to rebuild quickly ahead of the world cup in the United States, Canada and Mexico, with the FA understood to be prioritising a coach capable of delivering both immediate results and long-term stability.

‎While no agreement has been finalised, discussions are believed to be ongoing. Should a deal materialise, Regragui’s appointment would signal a bold move by the GFA to restore the Black Stars’ status among Africa’s elite.
