Liverpool Football Club have strongly condemned racist abuse directed at Ghanaian forward Antoine Semenyo during their Premier League opener against AFC Bournemouth at Anfield on Friday night.

The game, which ended in a pulsating 4-2 victory for Liverpool, was briefly halted in the first half after Semenyo reported the abuse to the referee.

Match officials and staff from both clubs intervened before play resumed.

On the pitch, Liverpool’s new signing Hugo Ekitike opened the scoring before setting up Cody Gakpo for the Reds’ second goal shortly after the break.

Semenyo then responded brilliantly for Bournemouth, scoring twice in quick succession to bring his side level. However, late strikes from Federico Chiesa and Mohamed Salah sealed all three points for Jürgen Klopp’s men.

After the match, Liverpool issued an official statement denouncing the incident and confirming that it is under police investigation.

“Liverpool Football Club is aware of an allegation of racist abuse made during our Premier League game against AFC Bournemouth,” the club stated.

“We condemn racism and discrimination in all forms; it has no place in society or football. The club is unable to comment further as tonight’s alleged incident is the subject of an ongoing police investigation, which we will support fully.”

Authorities have begun investigating the case, with both clubs pledging their full cooperation to ensure accountability.
