The Manhyia Palace has postponed the hearing of a case involving Ernestina Akosua Bimpomaa, elder sister of the late highlife musician Charles Kwadwo Fosu, popularly known as Daddy Lumba, following her invocation of the Great Oath of the Asantehene.

The incident occurred during a court session on Tuesday, October 28, 2025, in a case filed by Akosua Serwaa, Daddy Lumba’s first wife, who is challenging the legitimacy of who qualifies as the musician’s lawfully wedded wife.

According to Asante custom, any matter involving the Great Oath must be referred to the Manhyia Palace for resolution, as traditional courts do not have the authority to adjudicate such cases.

The family was expected to appear before the palace on Monday, November 3, 2025, but the session was postponed due to an ongoing court case awaiting judgment on related matters.

Meanwhile, a Kumasi High Court has dismissed an injunction application filed by Akosua Serwaa seeking to halt the funeral rites of the late Daddy Lumba.

The court ruled that, under Asante customary law, authority over the musician’s remains rests with his extended family rather than his first wife.

With the injunction lifted, legal attention now turns to the core dispute—determining who is the legitimate surviving spouse.

The court has directed all parties to file their legal submissions by October 31, ahead of a Case Management Conference on November 14, which will pave the way for the main hearing beginning November 17.

Proceedings are expected to conclude by November 21, with a final judgment anticipated on November 25, 2025.
