Mohammed Salisu says he’s not surprised to be back in AS Monaco’s starting lineup, after enduring a challenging 2024/25 campaign where he was largely used as a backup option.
The 26-year-old Ghanaian centre-back, who joined Monaco in summer 2023 on a five-year deal, has now started the last seven matches for the French side, including six Ligue 1 games and three Champions League appearances.
“I gave myself the chance to earn this spot by working hard… I’ve been improving and staying disciplined since the restart,” Salisu told Sky Sports.
Salisu’s return to form has been a defensive boost for Monaco, who are pushing for European qualification this season.
The 26-year-old center half has featured in six French Ligue 1 games this season and has gone on to record one goal for his side, also featuring in three out of four UEFA Champions League games this campaign.
Salisu, since his arrival at the French outfit in January 2023 has reached 46 games for AS Monaco and notched four goals, whilst registering one assist.
From Fringe to First Choice
Last season, Salisu made just 24 appearances, with his last start coming in February, but his resilience and tactical discipline have earned him a consistent role in the current campaign.
