Ghanaian musician Mr. Drew has fired back at music duo DopeNation, warning them to refrain from mentioning his name in future interviews after they accused him of disrespecting their contributions to his hit song, This Year.

The row began when DopeNation's B2 and Twist claimed that they co-wrote and produced This Year but were never acknowledged for their involvement.

During an interview with Headless YouTuber, the duo criticised artists who fail to credit the behind-the-scenes creators after a song becomes a hit. They specifically called out Mr Drew and singer Sefa, accusing them of not giving due recognition despite helping in the writing and production of tracks.

According to DopeNation, when Mr. Drew entered the studio, he only brought “scribbled lyrics” without a clear structure for the song, leading them to guide him through the recording process. They further stated that they had to help shape the song from the ground up, only to be left out of the final credits.
“They know how we did it but as they went out, they never acknowledged DopeNation… when he got to the studio, he had just scribbled words, he did not have the actual words for the song so we had to take him through our process of recording,” DopeNation said.

Clearly agitated by the remarks, Mr. Drew took to X (formerly Twitter) on July 29, 2025, to warn the duo against disrespecting him or his brand.
“Yo @GhDopeNation I love what yall do but don’t disrespect me or my brand .. you could have had your interview without mentioning my name .. next time you go interview wey you mention my name you go hear am .. bunch of lame guys throwing tantrums,” Mr Drew wrote.

This Year, released in 2020, became one of Mr. Drew's most successful tracks, dominating Ghanaian airwaves and solidifying his place as a hitmaker.
