NCA suspends 9 radio stations with 3 belonging to Chairman Wontumi
12th August 2025
The National Communications Authority (NCA) has suspended the operations of nine radio stations for breaching Ghana’s broadcasting regulations after the 30-day amnesty period granted by President John Dramani Mahama expired.
The suspensions include three stations owned by Bernard Antwi-Bosiako—popularly known as Wontumi—which, according to the regulator, failed to rectify specified breaches during the amnesty window.
The NCA explained that while several broadcasters took steps to comply during the grace period, six made no effort to address the infractions, and three only partially complied without resolving critical breaches.
Stations suspended for taking no corrective action:
- Donplus Multimedia Limited – 105.9 FM, Ho
- Dreams Ghana Media Limited – 104.9 FM, New Abirem
- Jam Multimedia Limited – 101.3 FM, Kintampo
- Jewel Group Limited – 102.7 FM, Duayaw Nkwanta
- Kpandai Star Community Radio – 107.3 FM, Kpandai
- Unique Gateway Communication Limited – 105.7 FM, Nkawkaw
Wontumi Multimedia Company Limited stations suspended:
- Wontumi Radio – 95.9 FM, Accra
- Wontumi Radio – 101.3 FM, Kumasi
- Wontumi Radio – 101.3 FM, Takoradi
The regulator stated that these stations violated Regulation 54 of the Electronic Communications Regulations, 2011 (L.I. 1991), which prohibits operations without a Certificate of Compliance.
Other infractions included unauthorised use of Studio-to-Transmitter Link (STL) frequencies and broadcasting from unapproved transmitter locations.
Reaffirming its commitment to enforcement, the NCA stated:
“The NCA will continue to monitor the broadcasting space to ensure compliance with the relevant authorisation conditions and the laws and regulations governing the operation of broadcasting services in Ghana.”
