No one in Ghana has the power to ‘address’ Asantehene – Actor Kwaku Manu
19th September 2024
Popular Ghanaian actor, Kwaku Manu has disclosed that no one in Ghana has the power to address the Asantehene Otumfuo Osei Tutu II in a particular manner.
He stated that not even the President, past or present and the Parliament of Ghana have those powers considering the critical role the King plays in the country.
While throwing more light on the supremacy of the Asantehene, Kweku Manu disclosed that even the Supreme Court has no power to address any issue concerning the Asantehene.
“Our president, Akufo-Addo, and former President John Mahama cannot address the Asantehene, they do not even have the power to address any issue concerning the Asantehene. Even Parliament can’t address Otumfuo. I hardly do tribalism but I want to explain for some people to understand.” He said.
The Kumawood actor’s outburst follows comments made by an Accra-based Broadcast Journalist, Afia Pokua who sought to denigrate the King amid ongoing conflicts involving his subjects and other tribes, including the Bonos.
During the discussions on Onua FM’s ‘Bribi Gye Gye wo,’ hosted by Mona Gucci, Pokua expressed frustration with what she sees as Ashantis proving superiority over other tribes and the Asantehene’s refusal to act on it.
These statements have led to widespread outrage among the Ashantis, with a lot of Ashantis criticizing the Journalist over her comments they deemed derogatory.
While sharing some history of the Asante Kingdom, Kweku Manu said; “The white never ruled the Asantes. Asantes fought for their independence before Dr Kwame Nkrumah fought for independence for the whole country. We didn’t have a country called Ghana, we only had Gold Coast but during those times, there was a whole kingdom called “Asanteman”
