The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has announced plans to hold a National Thanksgiving Service following the successful conduct of its presidential primary on January 31, 2026, describing the process as one of the most peaceful and credible internal elections in the party’s recent history.

The thanksgiving activities, to be held under the theme “Offer to God a sacrifice of thanksgiving” (Psalm 50:14), are intended to express the party’s gratitude to God for what it characterises as a calm, transparent and historic exercise that culminated in the emphatic election of former Vice President Alhaji Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia as its presidential candidate for the 2028 general election.

According to a statement signed by the General Secretary of the party, Justin Kodua Frimpong, the thanksgiving will be observed through two major religious services reflecting the multi-faith character.

The first will be an Islamic Thanksgiving Prayer Service scheduled for Friday, February 13, 2026, at the National Mosque in Kanda at 12:30 p.m.

This will be followed by an Interdenominational Christian Thanksgiving Service on Sunday, February 22, 2026, at the University of Professional Studies, Accra (UPSA) Auditorium, beginning at 11:00 a.m.

The events are expected to bring together a broad cross-section of party leadership and membership, including the newly elected presidential candidate, national and regional party executives, Christian and Muslim clergy, current and former Members of Parliament, former ministers, former CEOs and managing directors of state institutions, MMDCEs, and other former government appointees.

Party sources say the services are part of a broader post-primary consolidation effort aimed at fostering unity, reconciliation and shared purpose as the party prepares for the 2028 general elections.

The NPP leadership has extended an open invitation to party members, supporters, sympathisers and the general public to participate in the thanksgiving activities, encouraging them to join in expressing gratitude for the peaceful conduct of the primaries and to commit the party’s leadership, direction and national vision to divine guidance.

The move reflects the party’s attempt to frame the post-primary period not only as a political transition, but also as a spiritual moment of reflection and renewal ahead of the next phase of its national campaign.
