Otto Addo to announce Black Stars squad for crucial AFCON Qualifiers against Sudan this week
1st October 2024
Ghana coach Otto Addo is set to unveil his squad later this week for the upcoming 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifying doubleheader against Sudan.
With Ghana in desperate need of points, Addo is expected to assemble a strong team for the crucial fixtures.
The Black Stars will regroup in mid-October for matchday three and four of the qualifiers. After a shaky start to their campaign, which included a 1-0 defeat to Angola at the Baba Yara Stadium and a 1-1 draw against Niger in Berkane, Ghana finds itself in a precarious position in Group E.
Addo is likely to call upon key players such as Thomas Partey, Jordan Ayew, Inaki Williams, and goalkeeper Lawrence Ati-Zigi to boost their chances of qualification.
Currently sitting third in the group with just one point, Ghana will need a significant turnaround to stay on track for AFCON 2025.
The Black Stars are scheduled to face Sudan at home on Friday, October 11, before traveling to Libya for the second leg on Monday, October 14, at the Martyrs of February Stadium.
However, uncertainty remains over the location of Ghana’s home fixture after the Baba Yara Stadium was banned due to poor pitch conditions.
The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has since inspected both the Accra Sports Stadium and Cape Coast Stadium as potential alternative venues.
With qualification hopes on the line, Ghana will need a strong performance in both matches as they aim to secure their fifth AFCON title in Morocco next year.
