Ghana Premier League standouts Benjamin Asare, Razak Simpson, and Kwame Opoku have been named in the Black Stars squad for the upcoming Unity Cup, a four-nation tournament set to take place in London later this month.
The trio departed Ghana on Friday night en route to the United Kingdom, where they will join the national team camp ahead of the competition, which includes Ghana, Nigeria, Jamaica, and Trinidad & Tobago.
Hearts of Oak goalkeeper Benjamin Asare retains his spot after impressing in Ghana’s March victories during the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers. His consistent performances were key to Hearts' recent 3-1 league win, further solidifying his status within the national team setup.
Razak Simpson of Nations FC earns a well-deserved call-up following a stellar season. His absence will be felt this weekend as Nations FC—currently topping the Ghana Premier League—prepare to face defending champions FC Samartex without their defensive linchpin.
Asante Kotoko striker Kwame Opoku also returns to the national fold after a strong run of form. Opoku has been among the league’s top scorers and was pivotal in Kotoko’s recent fixtures, netting a brace in his last outing. His club will now have to contend without him in their key clash against Bibiani GoldStars.
Ghana will kick off their Unity Cup campaign with a high-stakes encounter against Nigeria on Tuesday, May 28, at the Gtech Community Stadium in Brentford. Winners of the semifinal will advance to the final on May 31, while the losing teams will face off in a third-place playoff earlier that same day.
The Black Stars are set to officially open camp in Accra on Sunday, May 25, before flying out. The Unity Cup is seen as vital preparation ahead of Ghana’s 2026 World Cup qualifiers against Chad and Mali in September.
