2nd August 2018
The opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), has stated that their opposition against the the appointment of Jean Adukwei Mensa as the new chairperson of the Electoral Commission remains despite being sworn- in by President Akufo-Addo.
According to the National Organizer of the NDC, Kofi Adams, the party will continue to speak out against the appointment.
President Nana Akufo-Addo yesterday August 1,2018 swore into office Mrs Jean Mensa, former Executive Director of the Institute of Economic Affairs (IEA) as the new Chair of the Electoral Commission (EC) of Ghana.
He also swore in a political science lecturer at the University of Ghana, Dr Eric Asare Bossman; Ms Adjoa Esuama Abrefa, a corporate legal practitioner with specialisation in land property acquisition, and Samuel Tettey, Director of Electoral services in charge of elections at the Electoral Commission as deputy commissioners of the electoral management body.
The swearing-in ceremony took place at the Jubilee House on Wednesday, 1 August 2018.
In reaction to the swearing in, Kofi Adams in an interview with Citi News reiterated that the party will continue to point out the flaws in the process.
“Everything is wrong about the nomination, the council of state approval of it and the swearing-in. As NDC and as a political party we will continue to rise to everything that is wrong about this process. Democracy does not end because we have sworn in, we will continue to raise the issue to let the whole world know the behaviour of President Akufo- Addo and the New Patriotic Party (NPP),” he said.
