The Ghana Plastic Manufacturers Association and the National Association of Sachet and Packaged Water Producers have agreed to maintain current sachet water prices after suspending plans for an increase.
The decision follows a meeting with Elizabeth Ofosu-Adjare, Minister for Trade, Agribusiness and Industry, during which concerns over rising production costs were discussed.
Speaking to the media after the meeting, the minister explained that a proposed rise in polymer prices has been put on hold due to improving economic conditions.
She noted that the current level of economic stability presents an opportunity for producers to absorb some of the cost pressures rather than passing them on to consumers.
“Because the economy has been stable for a while, we believe it is a good time for the industry to also cushion Ghanaians,” Ofosu-Adjare said. “They have agreed to do that so we can continue to enjoy the stability in the system.”
She added that while economies experience both gains and losses, the recent period of stability—lasting about 14 months—should encourage producers to support consumers for the next two months.
“We are hopeful that things will return to normal soon,” she stated.
