Taifa woman in Court for allegedly producing cannabis-infused beverages and toffees

A 45-year-old woman, Millicent Asamoah Ampofo, has been arraigned before an Accra Circuit Court for allegedly manufacturing and selling drinks and confectioneries suspected to contain cannabis at Taifa, a suburb of Accra.

The accused, described by police as the owner of a local drinking spot, is facing charges of unlawful possession and control of a narcotic drug.

Prosecutors told the court that on November 5, 2025, officers from the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) carried out a targeted operation at Millicent’s premises based on intelligence reports.

The team reportedly seized 47 bottles of sobolo, 20 bottles of mango drink, 23 bottles of other unidentified beverages, a blue mini drum with liquid substances, and 180 brown toffees, along with dried leaves and powdery materials — all believed to contain cannabis.

Investigators said Millicent admitted preparing and selling the items during questioning and identified her supplier as a man known only as “Richard”, who is currently being sought by the police.

She allegedly sold the sobolo for GH₵5, the mango drink for GH₵20, and each toffee for GH₵5.

Her plea was not taken as samples of the seized substances have been sent to the Police Forensic Science Laboratory for further analysis.

Presiding judge Kwabena Kodua Obiri-Yeboah granted the accused GH₵50,000 bail with one surety and directed the prosecution to submit all relevant documents before the next hearing.

Police say efforts are ongoing to locate and arrest the alleged supplier.
