A district court in Tarkwa has sentenced a motorbike repairer, Godfred Atta Hagan, to six months in prison with hard labour after he admitted to stealing a Royal motorbike valued at GH¢13,000.
The case, presided over by Judge Charles Owusu Nsiah, saw Hagan plead guilty to the charge and convicted on his own plea.
According to the prosecutor, Sergeant Enoch Assan-Donkoh, the victim, Isaac Mensah Mbeah, a delivery rider based at Tamso, had parked his motorbike with registration number M-25-WT278 at his shop near the Tamso Municipal Assembly Basic School on April 16, 2025.
When the complainant woke up around 1:00 a.m., the motorbike was missing. A witness later spotted Hagan riding away with the stolen bike and quickly alerted the owner, who filed a police report in Tarkwa.
After the theft, Hagan went into hiding until May 11, when police received information that he was lodging in a friend’s house. He was subsequently arrested.
During interrogation, Hagan led investigators to another associate, identified only as “Gucci,” who is currently on the run. The stolen motorbike was later recovered from Gucci’s residence.
Hagan is now serving his sentence, while police continue to search for the accomplice.
