‘You may run, but we will catch you’ - CID boss warns criminals
24th September 2025
The Director-General of the Criminal Investigations Department (CID), COP Lydia Yaako Donkor, has issued a strong warning to criminal networks across Ghana, assuring them that the police will track them down regardless of how far they flee.
Her remarks follow the recent successful police operation that dismantled a gang of armed robbers believed to be behind a series of violent attacks on rural banks in five regions.
“To the criminals out there, always remember that you may run and hide, but we will surely get you arrested to face the full rigours of the law. We are coming for you,” COP Donkor declared at a press briefing at the National Police Headquarters in Accra on Wednesday, September 24.
The operation, described by Inspector-General of Police Dr. Christian Tetteh Yohuno as a “major breakthrough,” resulted in the arrest of 10 suspects, while three others were killed in a shootout. Police also seized weapons, ammunition, vehicles, and mobile phones linked to the syndicate.
COP Donkor stressed that the Police Service will not relent in its fight against violent crime, promising continued vigilance.
“We wish to assure the good people of Ghana that the Police Service will continue to work around the clock to ensure security, law, and order at all times,” she said.
She further appealed to the public to assist law enforcement by reporting suspicious activities and providing credible information, assuring that such contributions will be treated with confidentiality.
The CID chief’s comments reinforce the IGP’s stance that Ghana will remain an “uncomfortable place for criminals” as police intensify their crackdown on organised crime.
