The combined efforts of  the Ministry of Finance and the International Organisation for Migrants (IOM) enabled the return of 106 illegal Ghanaian emigrants to Libya who were detained back to the country.

In a press statement, it has been stated that the returnees were brought back to the country when an information reached Ghana on how some Ghanaians are maltreated by Libyans.

The detained Ghanaians are used for human-trafficking in Libya and the government is putting in a lot of efforts to ensure the repatriation of the rest of the Ghanaians in in Libya.

The statement read, “Government constituted a five- member fact-finding delegation which visited Libya from 5th to 10th February, 2018 to assess their situation. Among those identified by the fact-finding team were Ghanaians who were being held at detention centres for various offenses including entering Libya illegally as well as possession of fake documents. Subsequently, arrangements were made for their repatriation and the necessary travel documents issued to them”.
