It has emerged that the three persons picked up by state security agencies on suspicion of engaging in “an elaborate plot targeted at the Presidency” were also planning to attack the military.

The government in a statement released on Monday said a joint security operation on Friday led to the retrieval of several arms, explosive devices and ammunition from locations in Accra and Kpone-Bawaleshie in Dodowa.

The issue, since it came up has attracted several views from different people with some security analyst saying the ammunitions and weapons retrieved from the alleged coup plotters are insufficient and lack the requisite firepower to overthrow the government.

But the Deputy Minister of Defence, Major Rtd Derrick Oduro speaking on Kasapa FM disclosed the issue should be dealt with all the needed attention.

The three, Dr Frederick Yao Mac-Palm, Dornyah “Ezor” Kafui, a local weapon manufacturer and Bright Allan Debrah Ofosu aka BB or ADC, freight manager have since been slashed with five charges.

The charges are;

1. Conspiracy to commit crime - Manufacture of arms and ammunition without lawful authority.

2. Conspiracy to commit crime - Possession of explosives and firearms without lawful authority.

3. Manufacture of firearms without lawful authority.

4. Manufacture of explosives and ammunition’s without lawful authority

5. Possession of explosives and firearms.

Their pleas were not taken by the court.
