President Akufo-Addo has stated that his government will not be distracted by unfounded allegations by the National Democratic Congress (NDC).

According to a report by MyNewsGH, he added that he is aware the NDC desires that the government spends time on the unfounded allegations, so that it is distracted from its mandate.

He went on to say that the same party will then turn around during elections to fault the government for its failure to work.

His comments come on the heels of allegations of inflation of figures in a deal to secure a six-bedroom residence for Ghana’s representative in Norway.

The minister of foreign affairs and regional integration, Shirley Ayorkor Botchwey, had earlier refuted reports that the ministry had inflated the cost of the building.

She went on to say that no money had exchanged hands, and claims by the opposition party to that effect are wrong.

Ayorkor Botchway, in response, said the Ministry has, so far, not spent any money, not even a cent on that property.

She said the ministry had suspended the planned purchase of the property and that she takes responsibility for everything that was done in the Ministry under her watch.

Okudzeto Ablakwa, the ranking member on foreign affairs, during the approval of budgets, had accused the ministry of inflating the cost of the property to 12.1m dollars instead of 3.5m dollars.

He said the minority’s investigations uncovered that 16.5m dollars presented to the Foreign Affairs Committee of Parliament as the budget for the new mission in Oslo, the chancery and the ambassador’s residence was too high.
