Two gas stations in the Greater Accra Region have been shutdown over failure to meet safety requirement, the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) has said.

One of the gas stations located in Amasaman was closed down after a gas leakage was detected on an inspection tour the GNFS.

The other one, located at Pokuase, was closed down for flouting fire safety measures including not having a legal permit for the siting of the station.

According to the  Deputy Public Relations Officer at the GNFS, Prince Billy Anaglate, there will be a nation wide exercise to close down any filling station which does not adhere to fire safety measures.

The closure of the two gas stations comes on the heels of a gas explosion at La.

The explosion claimed nine lives and injured over 40 people who are receiving treatment at various hospitals in Accra.
