In July 2018, officials of the Ghana Education Service (GES) and WAEC were summoned to appear before Parliament’s Education Committee.

This was because of the poor performance of the students who wrote the WASSCE in that year.

The results showed that close to two hundred thousand students performed poorly in the core subjects.

Of the 316,999 candidates that sat for the exam, the full results of 26,434 candidates were withheld because of examination malpractice.
