The Deputy General Secretary of the main opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), Peter Boamah Otokunor is optimistic that President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo will be retired from politics in the 2020 general elections.

According to him, the NDC’s Parliamentary Primaries which is being done in bits and pieces is part of the party’s strategies to win more majority seats in Parliament and also ensure one-touch victory for former President John Dramani Mahama in the 2020 elections.

“The arrangement we have made towards our Parliamentary Primaries is strategic; it is driven by a strategy and not that we are conducting our primaries in tot, and also because we are facing challenges in some constituencies . . . our primaries is in bits and pieces strategically because we have an agenda to win more seats in Parliament in the 2020 elections,” he disclosed.

Commenting on the success of the primaries which were conducted in Ellembelle, Mfanteman and Assin South in the last weekend with the exception of Fanteakwa North Constituency which has been rescheduled to take place the next Saturday, Peter Boamah Otokunor indicated on Okay FM’s 'Ade Akye Abia' Morning Show that the same thing will be done in the rest of the constituencies after a decision is taken by NEC.

He again mentioned that the NDC has carefully crafted the primaries in the various constituencies to have almost 30 percent of the candidates to be women to contest in the 2020 general elections as it is the party’s plan to help push more women in Parliament.

The Deputy Chief Scribe of the NDC stressed that, “the most important aspect of our arrangement in the primaries is that, it has helped to reduce the incidence of conflict and internal bickering. We have done constituency by constituency assessment and only a few places that we encountered dislike from the losers”.

He reiterated that the strategy of the NDC in the Parliamentary Primaries has made it one of the most successful primaries which have been done; urging the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) to take a cue to avoid chaos in their primaries.

“In all of this, our main agenda is that we will be able to win massively; we want one-touch victory in the 2020 elections. And in Parliament, we want overwhelming majority and so in that sense, we have to put things right so that there will be unity in the party in order for people to willingly support the common course of winning the 2020 elections,” he divulged.

He hinted that the campaign will be intensified after the Running Mate is chosen till the main elections is over.

"We will find a place for Akufo-Addo to stay for retirement so that he can take care of his grandchildren,” he assured.
