2026 budget is a "cut-and-paste" document- Afenyo-Markin
28th November 2025
Minority Leader Alexander Afenyo-Markin has sharply criticised the 2026 Budget Statement and Economic Policy Document, describing it as a “cut-and-paste” compilation that lacks originality and fails to offer clear policy direction.
Contributing to the debate in Parliament on Thursday, November 27, Afenyo-Markin accused the Ministry of Finance of neglecting its responsibility to present a well-prepared, factual and credible budget for legislative scrutiny.
He pointed to what he called glaring inaccuracies in the document, including references to ministries that have either been dissolved or restructured by the current administration.
“How can you, at paragraph 519, claim that there is a Ministry of Railway Development? How can you, at paragraph 528, say there is a Ministry of Sanitation and Water Resources, and at paragraph 523 refer to a Ministry of Works and Housing?” he questioned.
The Effutu MP argued that many of the policies outlined in the budget were merely recycled from previous fiscal plans rather than reflecting new initiatives or solutions tailored to the country’s current needs.
Afenyo-Markin therefore called on the government to withdraw the document and submit a revised, accurate budget for parliamentary consideration.
“This document has been brought to Parliament in the least. This document must be withdrawn and a new budget brought before Parliament,” he stated.
