President John Mahama has officially launched the government’s 24-Hour Economy initiative, declaring that the policy has moved beyond a campaign slogan to become a comprehensive national strategy aimed at boosting productivity and fostering inclusive economic growth.

Speaking at the launch event in Accra on Wednesday, July 2, President Mahama reflected on how the idea gained momentum during the 2024 election season, resonating with Ghanaians as a symbol of possibility and renewal.

“We have moved from slogan to strategy today. In 2024, the idea of a 24-hour economy captured national attention. It became a slogan of hope, a symbol that change was necessary and that it was possible,” he said.

He noted that while the launch marked a significant step forward, the real challenge lies in implementation.

“Our task now is to ensure that the necessary change is with the implementation. This launch is not the end, but it is the beginning of a massive national mobilisation,” the President added.

President Mahama also addressed misconceptions about the policy, clarifying that the 24-Hour Economy is not merely about longer working hours but about unlocking higher levels of productivity across strategic sectors.

“Let me be clear here, the 24+ Agenda is not just about extending working hours. It is about unleashing productivity, expanding opportunities, [and] accelerating export through well-structured and inclusive interventions.”

The 24-Hour Economy policy, a flagship initiative of the Mahama administration, is central to its economic agenda. It is expected to drive job creation, attract investment, and enhance Ghana’s global competitiveness by enabling continuous, round-the-clock economic activity.
