Four persons on remand at the Akuse Local Prison have been set free under the “Justice For All Programme” (JFAP), an initiative meant to decongest the country’s prisons.

The four inmates, including a 22-year-old Maxwell Agbagba, were unconditionally discharged out of the 34 hearing applications received.

The young man, Maxwell, who has been on remand for two years without trial for stealing an LCD Television,   broke into tears after being set free, and thanked the court that was constituted to hear his case and the lawyers who defended him, according to adomfmonline.com report.

Two specialized High courts have been set up at the prison to hear the cases of some of the accused persons on remand.

In May, seven persons on remand at the Nsawam Medium Security Prison were freed under the same “Justice For All Programme” (JFAP), which was introduced in 2007.

The 'Justice for All Programme-JFAP', aimed at alleviating prison overcrowding by setting up special courts to adjudicate remand prisoner cases in prisons throughout the country.
