The schools affected are Krobo Girls Senior High School, Akuse Methodist Senior High Technical School (AMEST) and Legacy College – a private school.
The disease started over a week ago however authorities of the schools reportedly thought it was a normal flu and malaria hence attempted to treat the infected students themselves. Others were taken home by their parents.
The situation worsened as the disease was spreading rapidly among the students. The Ghana Health Service according to sources got wind of and dispatched a Medical team to the Schools for investigation.
Starr News has gathered flu samples taken for laboratory tests in Accra confirmed positive for H3N2 Virus.
The affected students -300 in Krobo Girls, 45 in Amest and the rest in Legacy College have since been quarantined for treatment.
Health Officials in the Lower Manya Krobo Krobo have said the situation is Under control.
H3N2 is Influenza viruses that normally circulate in pigs. It is called “variant” viruses when they are found in humans.
Symptoms of the disease include runny nose, sore throat, headache, body aches and pains, fever, chills, fatigue, diarrhoea, and vomiting.
