Dr Ekow Spio-Garbrah, a flagbearer aspirant from the National Democratic Congress (NDC) will be sent to a specialist to check if he is truly visually impaired. This is what the General Secretary of the party, Johnson Asiedu Nketia says.

Asiedu Nketia, who is also famously known as General Mosquito, was speaking with Peace FM on the issue of Dr Spio-Garbrah intention's to plead with the party to be given a pass because he was supposedly "handicapped".

The NDC, has set January 19, 2019, for its presidential primaries, and nomination forms for the aspirants will cost GHc 20,000, while the filing fee will cost GHc 400,000.

Asiedu Nketia in an interview on Peace FM's morning show 'Kokrokoo', said he was not in the place to confirm if the former minister was indeed visually-impaired.

He is quoted as saying: "I will go to the Blind Association to find out if his (Spio) number is there . . . but I am not a doctor; we would have to go to the hospital to verify".

He added that vetting commences on the 17th and 18th of December this year to assess aspirants who would want to lead the party for election 2020.

Candidates according to the General Secretary of the party will have 10 days to go round all the 275 constituencies to have their forms endorsed by branch and regional executives of the party.

However, female candidates will pay 50% less of the filing fee while there will be an additional reduction for aspirants with physical disabilities.
