Parliament has rejected last minute frantic efforts by the Minister of Special Development Initiative, Mavis Hawa Koomson to amend an outrageous GHS 800,000 allocation for the construction of a website following a huge public uproar.

According to the minister, the report of the Finance Committee for an approval of over GHS 1 billion for the ministry’s 2018 expenditure, sought to create the erroneous impression that the ministry had earmarked the said amount for the website when in actual fact, the amount to be expended was GHS 80,000 cedis.

On the floor of parliament on Friday, December 22, the minister through Majority leader, Osei Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu attempted to amend the allocation to the website since the price had been over estimated.

But Minority members led by the Chief Whip, Alhaji Mohammed Muntaka Mubarak argued that procedurally, that couldn’t be possible.

Meanwhile, the NPP government has been given legitimacy to spend over GHS 67 billion for the 2018 financial year following the passage of the Appropriation Bill.
