“Battle of the Beasts”: Tabiti defeats Dickson to clinch the WBO African Bridgerweight title

America’s Andrew Tabiti floors Ghanaian boxer Jacob Dickson to clinch the WBC African Bridgerweight title in Accra.
On Friday, June 13 2025, the biggest boxing event recorded in the history of Ghana boxing in the last ten years came into fruition at the Bukom Boxing Arena in Accra, as two boxers— Jacob Dickson of Ghana and America’s Andrew Tabiti faced off in the big fight dubbed “The Battle of the Beasts.”
In the much anticipated event that was inspired and instigated by Legacy Rise Boxing Promotions—a boxing promotion agency owned by sports enthusiast and promoter Sharaf Mahama who happens to be the son of the President of the republic of Ghana.
Prior to the August event, there were dignitaries and other prominent figures who had trooped into the country for the bout, some of which are industry veterans and existing members of the World Boxing Organization. Celebrated boxer British boxer, Amir Khan who once became one of the youngest British to win the World Boxing Association (WBA) title at age 22 and had competed for the WBC (The Ring Middleweight Championship) and the WBO Welterweight Championship between 2016 and 2019 came to Accra Ghana to witness the big event.
Also, British-Nigerian professional boxer Anthony Oluwafemi Olaseni Joshua, a two-time unified world heavyweight champion (2016-2021) arrived in Ghana ahead of the much-anticipated “Battle of the Beasts” which happened at the Bukom Boxing Arena.
There were lots of boxing fans and enthusiasts who also came in to grace the event at the Bukom Boxing Arena in Accra, marking a great occasion in the history of the boxing fraternity in Ghana. There were other distinguished veterans like the legendary Azumah Nelson and Joshua Clottey who were present at the event.
In the event that saw American Tabiti defeating his Ghanaian opponent Dickson, the bout ended in the fourth round as Tabiti dominated and overpowered his opponent, giving a bout-ending slug that overwhelmed him on the fourth round.
Dickson’s woes began in the first round when an uppercut sent him to the canvas as he was overly dominated by Tabiti, who was forced to end the game in round four after his super dominance in the ring. Tabiti, who was once trained under the tutelage of Floyd Mayweather Snr whilst training at Floyd Mayweather Jr’s gym, instigated his flurry punches into his opponent until he emerged victorious at the end.
Dickson’s hopes were shattered as any attempt to fight back were dashed by the American and was even defeated fatally by a huge punch by the American who eventually won the WBO African Bridgerweight Championship title.
Tabiti has now won a whopping 21 fights out of 23 professional fights in his career.
