The Bekwai Circuit Court has remanded 31 individuals arrested by the Forestry Commission for the alleged invasion of the Apamprama Forest Reserve into police custody.

The accused persons were brought before the court, presided over by His Lordship Isaac Apeatu, who declined to take their pleas and ordered that they be remanded to reappear on January 12, 2026.

Prosecuting, Detective Inspector Eric Twum told the court that the large number of accused persons requires additional time for the prosecution to properly assemble facts and relevant documentation. He therefore requested that bail be denied.

Counsel for the accused, Prince Andrew Akawole, urged the court to grant bail, arguing that the suspects—including one woman—entered the country on December 27, 2025, and do not speak English or Twi. He contended that these factors reduce the likelihood of the accused absconding if granted bail.

He further informed the court that persons of good standing were willing to serve as sureties for the accused.

In his ruling, the presiding judge said the court had considered the nature of the alleged offence and the penalties attached to such crimes and was therefore unable to grant bail.

The case has been adjourned to January 12, 2026, with the accused persons remaining in custody until the next hearing.
