Four people have lost their lives after a violent road crash on the Accra-Kumasi Highway at Odumasi in the Asante Akyem Central Municipality, with several others rushed to hospital in critical condition.

The collision, which occurred on Monday near the Rider Iron and Steel Company, involved a Mercedes-Benz Sprinter passenger bus bearing registration number GE 6024-22 and a private car travelling in the opposite direction.

Reports indicate that one of the vehicles attempted an overtaking manoeuvre that went fatally wrong, triggering a head-on impact that claimed four lives on the spot.

The Sprinter had been making its way from Accra to Kumasi at the time of the crash, while the private car was headed in the opposite direction along the same stretch of road.

Survivors who escaped the wreckage but sustained serious and life-threatening injuries were conveyed to the Konongo-Odumasi Government Hospital for emergency care, with additional casualties also transported to Hope Care Hospital for treatment.

The bodies of the four deceased have since been deposited at the Yawkwei Steward Morgue as investigations into the circumstances of the crash get underway.
