Dr Amin Adam alleges 24-Hour Economy Secretariat has become inactive

Former Finance Minister and Member of Parliament for Karaga, Mohammed Amin Adam, has criticised the government’s 24-hour economy policy, alleging that the initiative has become dormant due to inadequate funding and weak implementation.
In a social media post shared on May 20, 2026, Dr Amin Adam claimed that the secretariat established to coordinate the policy has virtually ceased operations because the government has failed to release funds earmarked for its activities.
According to him, although GH¢110 million was allocated to the secretariat in this year’s budget, the funds have not been disbursed.
“The 24H Economy Secretariat is in a coma as the government has not been releasing funds from the GHS110 million allocated to it this year,” he stated.
Dr Amin Adam argued that the inability to operationalise the secretariat casts doubt on the government’s dedication to delivering its flagship economic programme.
He further maintained that despite the publicity surrounding the initiative, there has been little evidence of meaningful implementation or impact.
The former Finance Minister also questioned the sustainability of the policy under its current structure, insisting that businesses cannot fully participate without adequate incentives and financial support from the state.
