Appiah Stadium pays emotional tribute to Sammy Gyamfi’s father-in-law with NDC-branded wreath

Controversial National Democratic Congress (NDC) supporter, Frank Kwaku Appiah, popularly known as Appiah Stadium, drew attention at the funeral and burial service of Andrews Kwame Amankwah, the late father-in-law of Acting Chief Executive Officer of the Ghana Gold Board, Sammy Gyamfi, after presenting a specially designed NDC-themed wreath in his honour.
The funeral ceremony, held at Ohwim in the Ashanti Region on Saturday, May 30, 2026, attracted family members, friends, political figures and sympathisers who gathered to pay their final respects to the deceased.
Among the mourners was Appiah Stadium, one of the most recognizable grassroots supporters of the NDC and a known admirer of President John Dramani Mahama. Accompanied by his close associate, Kwame Ahenfie, he arrived at the funeral carrying a wreath designed in the red, white, green and black colours associated with the NDC.
The wreath, fashioned in the shape of an eagle, immediately caught the attention of mourners and social media users after videos from the event surfaced online.
Upon arriving at the funeral grounds, Appiah Stadium and Kwame Ahenfie first greeted the bereaved family, including Sammy Gyamfi, before joining other mourners for the solemn ceremony.
At a point during the funeral, Appiah Stadium and his associates formally presented the wreath to the family as a symbol of respect and solidarity.
Explaining the significance of the gesture, Appiah Stadium said the decision to use the NDC colours was deliberate and reflected the close relationship he shares with Sammy Gyamfi.
“I am President John Mahama’s son. Sammy Gyamfi is a good friend to me and my son, Kwame Ahenfie. We are presenting this wreath to Sammy Gyamfi’s father-in-law, who has passed away,” he stated.
The outspoken political activist went on to make a remark that generated laughter and reactions among mourners and social media users alike.
“We used the NDC colours because we believe our father will campaign for us in spirit during the 2028 election,” he said before handing over the wreath to the family.
The gesture quickly became a talking point online, with many Ghanaians sharing mixed reactions to the unusual tribute.
While some social media users praised Appiah Stadium for showing affection and loyalty to his political family, others questioned whether political symbolism should be incorporated into funeral ceremonies.
One user described the act as thoughtful and respectful, while another humorously referred to Appiah Stadium as “the National Funfooler,” a nickname that has become popular among his followers.
Others expressed amusement at Appiah Stadium’s ability to appear at major events across the country, jokingly wondering whether he owned a private jet due to his frequent travels and appearances at political and social gatherings.
Appiah Stadium has become a household name in Ghanaian politics due to his unwavering support for the NDC and President Mahama.
Over the years, he has gained national attention for his outspoken political commentary, grassroots mobilization efforts and appearances at high-profile political and social events.
