Sam George announces major reduction in MTN Fibre Broadband prices

The Minister for Communication, Digital Technology and Innovations, Samuel Nartey George, has announced significant reductions in the cost of MTN Ghana’s fibre broadband packages, a move aimed at improving access to affordable high-speed internet services across the country.
In a social media post on Wednesday, the Minister revealed that discussions between the government and MTN Ghana had led to a substantial review of the telecommunications company’s unlimited broadband pricing structure.
Under the new rates, customers who previously paid GH¢987 per month for an unlimited 100 Mbps fibre package will now pay GH¢299 for the same service, representing a dramatic reduction in cost.
MTN has also introduced an unlimited 300 Mbps package priced at GH¢444 per month, while subscribers seeking even faster connectivity can opt for an unlimited 500 Mbps plan at GH¢999 monthly.
According to Mr. George, the price adjustments are the result of sustained engagements between the Ministry and MTN Ghana to address concerns over the affordability of internet services in the country.
He noted that the government remains committed to ensuring that broadband services are not only affordable but also reliable enough to support the growing digital demands of individuals, businesses, and institutions.
The Minister commended MTN Ghana’s management for responding positively to calls for more consumer-friendly pricing and enhanced value for customers.
He further indicated that the Ministry would continue engaging stakeholders within the telecommunications industry to secure better service offerings and expand access to digital connectivity nationwide.
The revised pricing is expected to benefit households, students, businesses, remote workers, and digital content creators who rely on stable and high-speed internet access for their daily activities.
With demand for broadband services steadily increasing, industry analysts believe the new fibre packages could boost internet penetration, promote digital inclusion, and support Ghana’s broader digital transformation agenda.
Although MTN Ghana is yet to issue a detailed statement outlining the revised packages, the reductions represent one of the most significant cuts in fibre broadband pricing in Ghana’s telecommunications sector in recent years.
