Over 250 people have died resulting from a crash when a military plane fell immediately after taken off in the Northern part of Algeria.

The sad event happened in Boufarik, an area close to the capital city Algiers.

According to the Defence Ministry of Algeria, the cause of the crash has not yet been identified although it has been confirmed that, most of the people who died in the crash are military officers as well as their family members.

Ten members of the are also who also died on board are part of the crew.

Among the dead are said to be 26 members of the Polisario Front, seeking independence from Morocco for Western Sahara and supported by Algeria.

The Army officer is yet to visit the site where the incident occurred and has launched an investigation to find out the cause of the crash.

In 2014, a Malaysian plane carrying 298 passengers on board was shot down in Ukraine, making it the second deadliest plane crash ever.

According to the authorities in Algeria, a team is working on recovering the remains of those who were involved in the crash.

The plane, Ilyushin Il-76 was flying passengers on board to Bechar in the south-west of the country.
